With the emergence of Ian Defley, one might have thought that veteran rider William Yotsler was an afterthought these days. However, the elder statesman of Dodge showed he was very much still in the picture with a strong ride in the Zyte Classic yesterday.
Yotsler rode from the front in a strong field in England, managing to keep in touch with the leaders throughout and eventually finishing a credible fourth. While the race was won by a tireless Evert Blomkvist from Scandinavian Cycling, Yotsler was more than happy with a placing which saw him pick up 20 valuable OCM points and guarantee Dodge Cycling's return to Division 4.
"Well what can I say? Of course a podium finish would have been nice," Yotsler told reporters after the race, "But given the circumstances, the weather today, the riders out there... Fourth place is pretty satisfying. Plus you have Ronald and Culbert finishing in the points too. Good day at the office."
Culbert Pinney and Ronald Peavy finished 8th and 9th, with Roland Roskinki just missing out in 10th place. Team leader Ian Defley was back in 15th place, after being held back by a massive pileup on the way down from the second climb. Hartley Natcher finished a disappointing 60th but blamed it on a stomach upset he'd had the previous night.
